This week I've written about gardening and dreaming. So it seems appropriate to write about this little garden I've always dreamed of having. Just a small thing really, but one that makes me happy every time I see it.
I have always wanted a generously-sized garden devoted entirely to kitchen herbs. We've often grown them here and there between the veggies, or in pots, but it always seemed like there was never enough. I love using fresh herbs, a LOT of fresh herbs. So this year, finally, we took one garden plot and devoted it entirely to herbs!!
In that portion of the garden is a large and very hearty sage plant that was once a seedlings started indoors. I think it's about two or three years old now. To the sage (which we always have plenty of!) I added several perennials: rosemary, chives, thyme and oregano. I also planted one basil seedling, plus the six I started from cuttings and two dill seedlings. I am over-the-moon excited about dill with fresh garden tomatoes, chives in omelets, thyme in simple soups (and everything else I can think to add it to because Clay loves it). The herb garden is right by our front door so I see it several times a day. And each time is makes me smile.
