Sometimes Clay just needs a fun, relaxing project, something that isn't work, but just play. With a few wood scraps and spare hours on a Saturday he whipped up this little bird dining palace to perch atop the stump of a recently done in peach tree. He left the stump extra long so the feeder would be relatively high off the ground.
I love having him home on Saturdays, even if we're not working on something together I just like knowing he's a few steps away, peacefully creating something. And I pop in now and again to check on the progress and enjoy the sweet smell of pine and various other woods. I love that smell, it reminds me of my dad and my best friend's dad who were carpenters together when I was a little girl.
While I only visit periodically, Sam, on the other hand, spends the entire day outside in the yard and in the shop with his dad. He's in seventh heaven watching Dad use the various tools. He knows all the names and can even recognize them by sound if we're in the house and will give me a running commentary on what dad's doing outside based on the sounds emanating from the garage; "shaw! 'ammer! dwill!"
I hoe the birds appreciate the artistry of their new digs. They certainly seem to appreciate the seeds we leave out for them and we love watching them through the window.
