My heart sings every time I look out the window and see our little garden flourishing. We've had a few thunder storms lately, which the garden loves. I love a good thunder storm too. It's so exciting to stand under the roof over the back patio and hear the drum beat of the rain and see the lightning explode across the sky. Sam and I even danced around in the rain before his evening bath last night.
All of our plants are up, except the few that didn't germinate and had to be replanted. I discovered our first tomato; looks like a roma, but I don't remember planting romas... The beet greens are vibrant and electric pink at their stems and the Thai basil is already starting to blossom- yikes! I've been pinching the blossoms off and serving them atop whatever we happen to be having for dinner.
Out tomatillos are so healthy and covered with blossoms, I think the one above is going to be a purple tomatillo! We've never grown them before and Clay only recently discovered last summer that he loves them, so we're excited to see how they do.
An army of baby roquette greens.
Baby carrot plants are the cutest. Look, this one is even still wearing it's seed husk as a little hat! They're so cheerful and optimistic.
And the most exciting thing? My little grape vine produced a bunch of grapes its very first year! Luckily our neighbor's vine also partially spills over the fence into our yard, so we should have plenty of grapes this year. I also added a mint plant, lavender and stevia to the mix yesterday. I've never grown stevia before, but am excited to try mixing the dry leaves in with homemade teas. I gave Sam one of the leaves to chew on and he couldn't get enough of it; it's 20-30x sweeter than sugar cane!
