I had no idea this was such a big deal. The plant sale opened at 8 and people were already lined up and waiting. We got everything we came for, except strawberry plants. They were already sold out by 8:30!
It was so great to mill about with fellow gardeners of every ilk, united in their common passion for growing. It was like an obstacle course, trying to weave between people and plants, balancing trays of prized plants. After we loaded up, Clay waited in line to pay (almost 45 minutes!) while Sam and I walked around exploring some of the booths. A local cheese maker, Beehive Cheese Co., had some samples and they were delicious!
Here's some of what we came home with; zebra tomatoes, purple and green tomatillos, Armenian cucumbers, lemon cukes, parisian pickling cuumbers, purple something de milpa peppers, red Napoleon sweet peppers, a knobby squash and another kind that Clay picked out (I can't remember the name) and a rhubarb plant! We definitely don't have room for all the things we'd like to plant. The cucumbers are going to go in that narrow strip between the sidewalk and the road!
