I forgot to do a book review Friday, so I'll tell you about the lovely book I got for Mothers' Day, along with some bright, cheerful sunflowers. Of course, you've been hearing about it all along; it's my new absolute favorite, most brilliant cook book ever! It's where I've been getting all the great whole wheat bread recipes. I picked up Peter Reinhart's Whole Grain Breads at the library about a month ago and have been on a bread baking streak ever since.
I'm just in love with how he's reinterpreted all these classic recipes (raisin bread, bagels, pita, cinnamon rolls, challah, oatmeal bread, etc.) and made them 100% whole grain. And they're not some healthy-tasting hippie food either; they're tender and toothsome and oh-so-lovely coming out of the oven. I'm completely sold! It's an absolute must for any good cooking library. Today I'm happily returning the library's copy and making some whole wheat bagels (or maybe focaccia, I haven't quite decided...) from my very own book!
